Internship and Volunteer Opportunities
Still looking for a summer internship or perhaps you'd like to volunteer a couple of hours a week.  What better way to spend some of your free time this summer then helping to elect the first ever Member of the Maryland General Assembly of Armenian decent.  Hrant Jamgochian just announced his candidacy for the House of Delegates seat in District 16, which covers all of Bethesda as well as parts of Chevy Chase, Potomac and Rockville.  Hrant brings more than 15 years of public policy experience with law degrees from Georgetown and Catholic Universities and currently spearheads health policy strategy for the nation's largest non-profit organization.  However, he needs help getting his message out to the district.  For more information about Hrant's campaign as well as information on how to volunteer, please go to: www.FriendsofHrant.org  You can also contact the campaign directly at (301) 493-5740 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Scholarships for Students of Armenian Heritage:

 

 

In connection with its mission to serve as a resource for students and their families, the Armenian American Educators Association has approved five (5) $500 scholarships to be awarded to graduating high school seniors of Armenian heritage who plan to pursue higher education.


Scholarships are available in four areas of emphasis:

- Community Activist (candidates exemplifying community involvement and leadership skills with contributions to the Armenian community)

- Future Educator (candidates pursuing a career in the field of education)

- Future Visual & Performing Artist (candidates pursuing a career in the Visual & Performing Arts)

- Recent Immigrant (candidates residing in the United States less than four years)


The complete application packet is available from www.armenianaea.org and through high school guidance counselors.

Deadline for completed applications is: March 5, 2010. Applicants will be notified of their status by early April.

Formed as a non-profit organization in 2006, AAEA strives to build a network of educators and students of Armenian ancestry. It is an organization of dedicated educators of Armenian heritage whose mission is to contribute to and enhance the educational environment and opportunities of Armenian American students.

For more than 70 years, the AGBU SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM,

Through endowment funds established by generous donors, has contributed toward the higher education of thousands of promising young Armenians enrolled in leading colleges and universities around the world. Today, through its AGBU Fellowship Program and added focus on specialized fields of study, such as the performing arts and religious studies, the Scholarship Program offers financial assistance to a broader range of Armenian students worldwide.

AGBU FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (U.S.-Based Study)

AGBU offers scholarships to full-time graduate and post-graduate students of Armenian descent who are U.S. residents or citizens. Applicants must be enrolled in degree programs at highly competitive colleges and universities in the United States with a GPA of 3.5 and above. Grants are awarded annually in the range of $1,500-$7,500 and are available for up to three (3) years of graduate study and up to two (2) years of PhD study.

AGBU PERFORMING ARTS FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (U.S.- & Internationally-Based Study)

AGBU offers scholarships to full-time undergraduate and graduate students of Armenian descent worldwide (excluding citizens of Armenia studying in Armenia) who are pursuing their studies in the field of Performing Arts. Applicants must be enrolled in degree programs at highly competitive colleges and universities worldwide with a GPA of 3.5 and above. Grants are awarded annually in the range of $1,000-$5,000 and are available for up to five (5) years toward college/university education expenses.
