About the Artist
Nazik Aslanyan brings her native Armenia, in all its sun-laden glory, to her canvases. Trained in artistic appreciation and technique from a young age, she melds her academic background with expressionistic brushstrokes. The result is a series of works which seem to jump off the canvas, bursting with a passionate and benevolent energy that can only mean joy and, ultimately, love. The works transcend the figurative to reach a realm of abstract truth – and, despite the optimistic vigor of the paintings, Aslanyan's underlying truth is a bittersweet protest – a request for the universal good and a gesture to the inherent delight that life can contain.

Aslanyan paints with thick brushstrokes and a vitality which reflects the work of the American Abstract Expressionists. Her compositions exude the harmony and balance requisite for a true masterpiece as well as including the bright colors which are typical of Armenian art. The artist’s background affords her an understated humility. These works make no pretenses, yet they open a door to a depth and an insight well beyond the surface appeal.
